Introduction

Brief History

Persian Department was established in 1964 .Formerly Department was arranged in B.J.Institute of Learning and Research Center. Late Prof. Abu Zafar Nadvi was the founder. He was a great scholar of Persian , Arabic and Urdu. His contribution is in the field of “History” especially in the History of Gujarat based on origin sources. Then second Great Name is of Late Dr. Chhotu bhai Nayak. He compiled Persian Gujarati Dictionary. He also compiled a book  “ Gujarati Uper Arabi Farsi Ni Asar “.

After than Late Dr. A.N.Qureshi was Head of Department. Dr. B.A.Tirmizi followed him. There after Dr. M.G. Qureshi was appointed in the year of 1988. He is a great scholar of Persian, Arabic and Urdu. He wrote so many books and translated two books from Gujarati in to Urdu and Urdu in to Gujarati. He is an awarded of PRESIDENT AWARD. I am giving my service to Persian and Urdu Department since 1991.Prof. A.U.Shaikh is giving services as a visiting teacher. Our Department organized International conference in the year of 1997. Every year I arrange “Exchange of Teacher “Programme .Recently in the month of February 2006 Department arranged seminar on “Indian Coins and Architecture of Temples & Mosques.” and a great success. First of all P.G. Urdu Center was run by Gujarat College. But in the year of 1990-91 it was sifted to the school of Languages in the University of Gujarat, and merged with Persian. I am giving my services for Urdu teaching also. Dr. N.A.Munshi was appointed as a Lecturer in Urdu.He expired of Heart attack in 1996 then Mr. K.M.Ansari was appointed as a lecturer in Urdu

He was suffering from cancer and died in the year of 1999. At present Persian and Urdu Department is a joint Department. My self Dr. Chandbibi Shaikh is Reader and Head, I am teaching persian and Urdu both Since 1991 in the P.G. Classes.
